COCHRAN, GA. – The Columbus State baseball team fell to Middle Georgia State University by an 8-3 score on Thursday night in game one of a three-game Peach Belt Conference series from Stuckey Field.
Columbus State is now 21-11 overall with a 13-6 PBC record, while Middle Georgia improves to 13-23 on the year and 6-13 in conference play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A five-run second inning provided more than enough offense for the Knights as a three-run home run from Christian Dillard contributed to an early 5-0 lead.
- MGA added another run in the fourth inning before Columbus State got on the board with two runs on three hits in the top of the fifth.
- Junior Jax Yoxtheimer doubled with one out and advanced to third on a single from senior Jackson Chizek before fellow senior Cayden Evans cleared the bases with an RBI double.
- Another Evans RBI in the seventh cut the deficit to three runs at 6-3; however, the Knights added two more runs with a two-out rally in the home half of the inning to move ahead 8-3 with two innings left to play.
- Columbus State left runners stranded on second and third to end the eighth inning and went down in order in the top of the ninth to end the game.
NOTES
- Evans was 1-for-3 at the plate with a double and three RBI, while Chizek was 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base.
