AMERICUS, GA. – The Columbus State baseball team dropped the opening game of its final Peach Belt Conference series of the season by a 5-3 score to Georgia Southwestern State University on Friday night at Hurricane Stadium.
Columbus State is now 27-18 overall with an 18-10 record in the PBC, while Georgia Southwestern moves to 24\5-23 on the year with a 16-12 conference mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- A two-run home run highlighted a three-run first inning for the Hurricanes as GSW built an early 3-0 lead.
- An RBI single from senior Jackson Chizek brought Columbus State's first run across the plate in the third before CSU evened the score at 3-all in the sixth with back-to-back RBI singles from junior Cole Eison and sophomore Luke Miller.
- In the bottom of the eighth, GSW used another two-run home run to take a 5-3 lead.
- Columbus State put runners on the corners with just one out in the top of the ninth, but were unable to extend the game.
NOTES
- Sophomore starter Sawyer Wilson did not factor in the decision after allowing three runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts in six innings on the mound.
- Chizek and Eison each finished 2-for-4 at the plate with one RBI apiece, while junior Corey Berry was also 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored.
