AMERICUS, GA. – The Columbus State baseball team suffered its fourth consecutive loss on Saturday afternoon with a 15-4 run-rule defeat at the hands of Georgia Southwestern State University in Peach Belt Conference action from Hurricane Stadium.
Columbus State is now 27-19 overall with an 18-11 record in the PBC, while Georgia Southwestern moves to 26-23 on the year with a 17-12 conference mark.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hurricanes opened with a run in the first inning before building a 5-0 lead with a four-run fourth inning.
- In the fifth, a two-run home run moved the GSW lead to 7-0, while an eight-run fifth inning put the home team ahead by 15 runs.
- Columbus State looked to mount a rally in the seventh inning as senior Michael Cruz drove in the team's first run with a one-out RBI single to center.
- Sophomore Luke Miller followed with an RBI double down the right field line before senior Landen Jensen brought two runs across the plate with an RBI double of his own.
- Consecutive fly outs to left field ended the comeback attempt for CSU as the NCAA run-rule went into effect.
NOTES
- Senior Cayden Evans was the lone Cougar to record multiple hits, finishing 2-for-3 with a run scored.
- Jensen and Miller were each 1-for-3 with a double in the contest, while junior Corey Berry was also 1-for-3 with a double of his own.
- Senior Tenton Burnett had an effective relief appearance, allowing one run on one hit with a strikeout in one inning of work in his 10th outing of the year.
