COLUMBUS, GA. – The fifth-ranked Columbus State men's tennis team recorded its fourth straight win and second straight shutout on Tuesday with a 7-0 victory over the University of Montevallo at the Walden Tennis Center.
Columbus State is now 13-2 overall, while the Falcons fall to 4-7 on the year.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Cougars won all three doubles matches for a 1-0 lead, beginning with identical 6-0 wins at Nos. 2 and 3. The senior duo of Daniel Hammond and Benedek Szombathelyi claimed victory on court three, while senior Thomas Cardona and junior Samer Al Tori shutout the 35th-ranked doubles duo.
- Seniors Elias Peter and Andrea Sandrone won 6-2 in the top doubles match to complete the doubles sweep.
- Columbus State also swept singles play as (26) Cardona won 6-1, 6-1 on court one, and sophomore (49) Hugo Dider was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at No. 2.
- Senior Yike Liu recorded a 7-6, 6-4 win in the third flight, Sandrone won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4, and Al Tori collected a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5.
- Szombathelyi's 6-2, 6-2 decision at No. 6 completed the sweep for Columbus State.

Columbus State remains at home for its next contest when it hosts PBC front-runner Flagler College on Sunday, April 12, at 11:00 a.m. CSU and FC are currently 1-2 in the League standings, with neither team having a loss in conference play.
