ATHENS, Ga. – The Columbus State University men's tennis team started its fall season with four days of competition at the 2018 Southern Intercollegiate Championships hosted by the University of Georgia. The four-day event was held Sept. 7-10.

The Cougars put together a 15-14 overall record across 29 matches, with 24 coming against Division I competition.

Columbus State's best showing came in doubles action, with a pair of teams reaching at least the quarterfinal round.

KP Pannu and
Matei Avram downed duos from East Tennessee State and Central Florida before falling in the quarterfinals against a pair from UNC Asheville that won the tournament.

Zach Whaanga and
Alvaro Regalado ran off consecutive wins over teams from Arkansas, Gardner Webb and Lander to move into the semifinal round. Their run to the final came up just short however, as the Cougar pair fell 8-5 against the eventual runners-up from Arkansas.

In singles action, Pannu won his opening matches against opponents from Dartmouth and Georgia Gwinnett before falling in the round of 16 against the eventual champion from Central Florida.
Arnold Kokulewski and
Tommaso Schold also won their opening matches in the Division I Singles bracket.
Â
Avram won two of the three matches he played in the Division II Singles bracket, while
Fabien Asdrubal reached the quarterfinals in the Division III bracket.

Columbus State will host the annual CSU Tennis Classic Wednesday through Friday. More information is available here.

The Cougars will be back in action Sept. 21-22 for the CSU Invitational at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
