Box Score Like Columbus State Athletics on Facebook!
LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The second-ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team came away with another 6-1 win taking down West Alabama Sunday. The nonconference match took place at the Vaughan Tennis Complex in Livingston, Alabama.
CSU took two of the three doubles matches to jump out in front of 23
rd-ranked West Alabama. Top-ranked doubles team
Zach Whaanga and
Alvaro Regalado played a tightly contested match before coming out victorious 7-5. In the second spot it was 15
th-ranked
KP Pannu and
Matei Avram wining 6-3 over Henrik Sinkko and Ilia Dehodiuk. West Alabama took the doubles match in the third spot as
Tommaso Schold and
Arnold Kokulewski fell 4-6.
In singles the Cougars fought hard to grab five points to clinch the victory. Top-ranked Pannu took his match in three sets at the first position 6-3, 2-6, 6-1. CSU then had their two through four positions all grab straight set wins.
Whaanga took down Dehodiuk 6-2, 7-5 in straight sets while 25
th-ranked Regalado did the same winning 6-2, 6-3. Kokulewski grabbed another victory for Columbus State winning 6-4, 7-6 in straight sets.
Schold wrapped things up for CSU in the fifth position getting revenge against his doubles opponent Erik Nordblum. The freshman went 6-4, 3-6 to split the first two sets before winning the tiebreaker 10-4.
With the victory in hand, Avram and his opponent played a single set with West Alabama winning 9-7 to grab their lone point.
The Cougars have a quick turnaround coming back to Columbus to take on Georgia Southwestern on Monday, Feb. 25. The match will begin at 2 p.m.
