Box Score Like Columbus State Athletics on Facebook!
YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - The second-ranked Columbus State University men's tennis team continued their road dominance by defeating Young Harris 6-1 on Saturday. The Peach Belt Conference match took place at the Bob and Gayle Nichols Tennis Complex.Â
The duo of KP Pannu and Zach Whaanga got together and grinded out a close 7-6 win against their counterparts at the top doubles spot for CSU.Â
Over at second doubles the Cougars put Arnold Kokulewski and Matei Avram on the court and came away with a 6-2 victory. At third it was Alvaro Regalado and Fabien Asdrubal who finished the sweep at doubles for CSU with a 6-4 triumph.Â
Columbus State (18-2, 7-0 PBC) made some switches heading into singles play as top-ranked Pannu sat out for the Cougars.
At first singles it was Asdrubal who got the nod and battled his way to a third set tiebreaker. But the freshman fell just short, losing 6-4, 2-6, 3-10 in the tiebreaker.Â
Every other court in singles play though would go the Cougars way as they exerted their dominance.Â
At second singles 36th-ranked Whaanga snatched the straight set victory for CSU with a score of 6-4, 6-4. 25th-ranked Regalado was taken to three sets, but squeaked out the 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 point.Â
The final three courts resulted in straight set wins for Columbus State.Â
Kokulewski came out on top 6-3, 6-0 on fourth singles while Avram gave up just two games winning 6-0, 6-2 over at fifth. In the final singles slot it was Tommaso Schold who grabbed a 6-0, 7-5 victory as the Cougars rolled their way to another conference win.Â
Columbus State will return home to take on Francis Marion on Saturday, April 13. The match is scheduled to start at 11:00 a.m. at the Walden Tennis Center.
