CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The Columbus State University tennis teams brought home three of the four championships on Saturday at the ITA Southeast Regional Championship hosted by Belmont Abbey College.
On the men's side, the Cougars had three of the four spots in the singles semifinals with Tommaso Schold and Christian Garay meeting for a spot in the championship. Garay ended up getting the best of his teammate while Alvaro Regalado punched his spot in the finals with a straight set victory over Rodrigo Carvalho of Flagler. In the championship, Regalado claimed a 6-2, 7-6 win for his second career ITA Southeast Region singles title.
In the doubles draw, Regalado and Schold breezed to the championship with an 8-2 victory over Ryan Gaskin and Kevin Magnusson of North Georgia.
Not to be outdone, Beatriz Lopez captured the women's singles championship for Columbus State Saturday afternoon. After winning an instant classic three-set match in the semifinals, Lopez didn't need long to secure her crown in the finals. The senior defeated Eden Schlagenhauf of Flagler 6-0, 6-1 to close out the tournament.
