• Both Columbus State tennis teams will enter the 2021 season with high expectations with the Cougars being the top-ranked team in the nation in the preseason Oracle ITA Poll, while the women are fifth in their respected poll.
• On the men's side, CSU was a perfect 9-0 in 2020 before the season was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The highlight of the year came in early March as the Cougars swept top-rank Barry University 4-0 to capture the inaugural Division II ITA National Indoor Championship.
• Overall, the Cougars defeated five top-25 teams and added a Division I victory to its resume throughout the year. Columbus State will begin the year on a 16-match regular-season winning streak dating back to 2019.
• Fourth-year junior Alavaro Regalado is becoming one of the top collegiate players in the nation for head coach Evan Isaacs. Regalado competed in the 2020 Oracle ITA National Fall Championship at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla. representing Columbus State as one of the top-32 amateur tennis players in the U.S. The Alicante, Spain native, reached the quarterfinal round, including wins over two Division I opponents before bowing out.
• Regalado has eight ITA All-American honors in just three seasons, the most by a male CSU tennis player ever. He was also the 2018 ITA National Rookie of the Year and a member of the 2019 ITA All-Star Team.
• Christian Garay and Tommaso Schold are back for the Cougars in 2021. The duo teamed up to win the 2020 ITA Southeast Region doubles title and both earned spots on the preseason All-Peach Belt Conference team. In 2020,
• For the women, the reigning ITA Southeast Region Senior Player of the Year and four-time All American, Beatriz Lopez, will lead a talented group of ladies. Lopez was 8-1 in singles and 9-2 in doubles last season and also captured the 2020 ITA Southeast Regional singles championships.
• Luise Sachs, who joined Lopez on the 2020 All-American team, returns after playing at the top spot in the singles lineup a season ago. She went 6-3 in her second season in Columbus and was a member of the All-PBC singles and doubles team in 2019.
• After having a breakout year, Candice Paya will look to continue her success for Columbus State in the new year. The third-year junior was 9-2 in singles play over 2020 and earned the ITA National Player of the Week award in March after taking down two nationally-ranked opponents. Paya has numerous honors to her name, including being named the 2018 ITA Rookie of the Year and PBC Freshman of the Year.
• The Lady Cougars went 8-3 over the shortened 2020 season with three wins over top-25 ranked opponents.
