Cougar Golf Eager to Start Spring Season

Columbus State will be teeing off in the Matlock Collegiate Classic on Monday.

COLUMBUS - For the first time in 2022, the Columbus State University men's golf team will hit the links as the Cougars compete in the 2022 Matlock Collegiate Classic at the Lone Palm Golf Club. Florida Southern College will host the two-day, 54-hole event on Monday and Tuesday in Lakeland, Fla.

This week's field will be one of the best in America, with six teams in the Golfstat top-25. Top-ranked Barry University will be in the mix as well as No. 8 Limestone University, No. 11 West Florida University and No. 12 Nova Southeastern University.

The Cougars will look to hit the ground running this spring after just one top-10 finish in three fall tournaments. CSU played well at its home tournament this fall, grabbing a third-place performance.

Columbus State Director of Golf David McMinn has a deep roster with 10 Cougars playing at least three rounds. Two-time All-American Jordan Doull has CSU's best stroke average (min 6 rounds) after the fall, holding a mark of 72.1. Doull has the only top-10 finish by a Cougar this season, and he ranks 10th in the Peach Belt Conference in stroke average.

Doull will be the anchor in the lineup this week that also includes Preston Wagaman (73.7 avg., 3 rounds), Martin Gruendemann (74.3, 9 rounds), Arran Kanth (74.6, 9 rounds) and Eric Wowor (72.0, 3 rounds).

Columbus State has captured two Matlock Collegiate Classic titles, with the most recent coming championship coming in 2020.

Live scoring for this week will be available.
