VALDOSTA, Ga. — The No. 10 Columbus State University men's golf team secured its spot in the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship after finishing sixth at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional at Valdosta Country Club.
The Cougars closed the three-round regional at 4-under par, carding rounds of 3-under, 3-under, and 2-over to finish inside the cutline and advance to the national championship, set for May 18-22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder, Nev.
Columbus State put together a consistent week against one of the toughest regional fields in Division II golf. West Florida won the regional at 15-under, while Lee and Nova Southeastern tied for second at 14-under. USC Beaufort finished fourth at 11-under, followed by Georgia Southwestern and Emmanuel at 8-under. The Cougars followed in sixth at 4-under.
William Partner led Columbus State individually, tying for 18th at 2-under par. Partner opened with a 1-over round before firing a 3-under second round and closing with an even-par final round.
Ian Pienaar also finished under par for the Cougars, tying for 22nd at 1-under. Pienaar was steady throughout the tournament, posting rounds of even par, 2-under and 1-over.
Bryant Vail tied for 27th at 1-over, highlighted by a strong opening-round 4-under performance.
Will Coffman finished tied for 44th at 3-over after rounds of even par, 2-over, and 1-over.
Bernard Meyer competed in the first two rounds for Columbus State, shooting 2-over in the opening round and even par in round two before being substituted out for the final round.
William Greene entered the lineup for the final round and carded a 1-over score.
With the sixth-place finish, Columbus State advances to the NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship, where the Cougars will compete May 18-22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
