BOULDER CITY, Nev. — The Columbus State University Men's Golf team advanced to match play at the 2026 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship after finishing sixth through three rounds of stroke play Thursday at the Boulder Creek Golf Club.
The Cougars closed the 54-hole stroke play portion at 16-under par, posting rounds of even par, 12-under, and 4-under to secure one of the eight qualifying spots for the single-elimination medal match play bracket.
Columbus State entered the final round inside the cut line and held its position with another under-par team score. The Cougars finished ahead of CSU San Bernardino, Colorado Christian, and several nationally ranked programs to earn a spot in the match play portion of the championship.
Florida Southern claimed the top seed after finishing stroke play at 35-under par, followed by Missouri-St. Louis at 27-under, Wingate at 25-under, Lee at 18-under, and Georgia Southwestern at 17-under. Columbus State followed in sixth at 16-under, while CSU San Bernardino and Colorado Christian rounded out the eight-team match play field.
Ian Pienaar led Columbus State individually, finishing tied for 10th at 8-under par. Pienaar opened the championship with a 4-under round, followed by a 6-under second round, and closed with a 2-over final round to remain among the top players in the field.
William Partner also turned in a strong performance for the Cougars, finishing tied for 35th at 2-under par after carding rounds of 6-over, 5-under, and 3-under.
Bernard Meyer finished tied for 48th at even par, while
Will Coffman and
Bryant Vail each finished tied for 54th at 2-over par.
The NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship features 54 holes of stroke play, followed by an eight-team single-elimination medal match play competition. Teams will compete head-to-head in match play, with the winner of each match-up advancing until a national champion is crowned.
Columbus State will begin Match Play against Wingate University on Thursday, May 21, at 10:30 a.m. at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
