COLUMBUS — The Columbus State University men's golf team is set to compete on the national stage as the Cougars prepare for the 2026 NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship, held May 18-22 at Boulder Creek Golf Club in Boulder City, Nev.
Columbus State earned its spot in the national championship field after finishing sixth at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional at Valdosta Country Club in Valdosta, Ga. The Cougars closed the regional at 4-under par, posting rounds of 3-under, 3-under, and 2-over to secure one of the advancing positions out of one of the toughest regions in Division II golf.
The championship appearance continues a strong postseason run for Columbus State under head coach
Lee McCoy, who was named the 2026 Peach Belt Conference Men's Golf Co-Coach of the Year. The Cougars also finished second at the Peach Belt Conference Championship at the King & Bear Golf Course in St. Augustine, Fla., after climbing into contention over the final two rounds.
Columbus State has put together a consistent spring schedule against strong regional and national competition. The Cougars finished fourth at the Oldfield Classic, second at the Southeastern Collegiate, sixth at the Argonaut Invitational, second at the Peach Belt Conference Championship, and sixth at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional.
The Cougars will enter the NCAA Championship with a lineup featuring a mix of experienced veterans and young contributors.
Bernard Meyer leads Columbus State with a No. 28 national ranking, while
Ian Pienaar enters the championship ranked No. 56. Meyer, a Second Team All-Peach Belt Conference selection, has been one of the Cougars' most consistent players throughout the season, while Pienaar earned PBC Men's Golfer of the Week honors earlier this spring after a standout performance at the Southeastern Collegiate.
William Partner also enters the championship ranked No. 7, giving Columbus State another nationally ranked player in the field.

Bryant Vail is ranked No. 134,
Russell Makepeace is ranked No. 165, and
William Greene is ranked No. 214.
Columbus State's roster also includes
Frederick Chappell,
Jack Quinn,
Jackson Cavanaugh, and
Phil Snyman, who have helped provide depth throughout the season as the Cougars worked their way through a competitive spring slate.
The Cougars opened the spring at the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate in St. Augustine, Fla., before turning in several strong team finishes throughout the semester. Columbus State placed second at the Southeastern Collegiate at Kinderlou Forest Golf Club in Valdosta, Ga., and later added a sixth-place finish at the Argonaut Invitational in Pensacola, Fla.
At the Peach Belt Conference Championship, Columbus State opened in third place before moving into a tie for second after round two and finishing second overall after the final round. The Cougars carried that momentum into the NCAA South/Southeast Regional, where they remained steady across three rounds to punch their ticket to the national championship.
The NCAA Division II Men's Golf Championship will feature stroke play competition before the field is trimmed for match play to determine the national champion. Columbus State will look to continue its postseason push against the top teams in Division II at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
