No. 19 Cougars, Doull Hold Leads After Day Two of PBC Championship

Doull is looking to become the first Cougar since 1999 to win the PBC Championship.

ST. SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. - The 19th-ranked Columbus State University men's golf team will tee off the final round of the 2022 Peach Belt Conference Championship with the lead as the Cougars hold a two-shot lead after round two. The three-day championship is being held at the Sea Palms Resort in St. Simons Island, Ga.

CSU shot a 1-over 285 on Saturday to jump a spot on the leaderboard from the opening round. The Cougars' 6-over 574 bests both eighth-ranked University of North Georgia and sixth-ranked USC Aiken, who sit at 8-over 576 and tied for second.

The Cougars will have to fend off more than half the field over Sunday's final round, with four teams being separated by six strokes.

Columbus State's Jordan Doull also holds the individual lead after 36 holes. The All-American nearly played a flawless round on Saturday, making just one bogey over the day. Doull began the day with nine straight pars before turning up the heat with four birdies over a five-hole stretch. The senior ended his day by birding the par-3 ninth to turn in a 4-under 67.

Overall, Doull is 4-under 138 for the tournament and holds a stroke lead over Stephen Kinsel of UNG and Maxime Legros of Lander University. Doull is looking to become the first Cougar since 1999 to win the PBC Championship.

The rest of the Cougar lineup wasn't too shabby as well, including Arran Kanth, who shot an even-par 71. Kanth was in the red making the turn on Saturday after back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th. Kanth kept up the good play over his final nine holes, paring his final seven holes following a bogey on the second. The sophomore is in the hunt for a top-10 finish as he will tee off Sunday tied for 10th with a 3-over 145.

One of the players Kanth is tied with is his teammate Martin Gruendemann. Gruendemann continued his consistent work in the championship, firing a 2-over 73 on Saturday. He collected 13 pars along the way while sinking birdies on the eighth and 12th.

Preston Wagaman was CSU's final team scorer in round two after a solid 3-over 74. The senior was 2-under following a birdie on the 14th and made the turn at even par. After five straight pars, Wagaman closed the day with three bogeys over the final four holes to wind up with the 74. Wagaman begins Sunday in 27th with a 7-over 149.

Eric Wowor posted a respectable 4-over 75 but was Columbus State's drop score. Wowor had three birdies over his round to finish the day tied for 21st with a 5-over 147.
