Box Score ALTAMONTE SPRINGS, Fla. - The fourth-seeded Columbus State University men's tennis team cruised their way to a 4-0 victory over 13-seed University of Texas Permian Basin in the first round of the 2024 NAA DII Men's Tennis Championship at Sanlando Park in Altamonte Springs, Fla. With the win, the Cougars advance to the quarterfinals.
Columbus State earned the doubles match point, with victories coming from the pairs of
Felix Steen and
Thomas Cardona in the #1 spot, and
Camilo Cano and
Justin Welz in the #2 spot. Cardona and Steen beat their opponents 6-2, while Cano and Welz won 6-4.
In singles,
Daniel Hammond blanked his Falcon opponent 6-0, 6-0 playing in the fourth spot.
Andreas Sandrone then made the score 3-0 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory in the #6 spot, and Cardona gave the Cougars the last point they needed to advance, defeating his opponent 6-2, 6-4 in #2 singles.
UP NEXT
The Cougars will play fifth-seeded UIndy in the quarterfinal match on Wednesday, May 22 at 9 a.m. at Sanlando Park. UIndy defeated Southern Arkansas 4-1 on Tuesday morning.
