Columbus State Men’s Golf Open 2024-25 at the Bearcat Invitational; Cougars Announce Fall Schedule

Cougars tee off on Monday to open the fall portion of the 2024-25 season

COLUMBUS Columbus State University Men's Golf is slated to open the 2024-25 season on Monday, Sept. 9, traveling to McCormick, S.C. to compete in the Bearcat Invitational hosted by Lander (S.C.).

The Cougars will take part in a two-day tournament at the Monticello Golf Club in McCormick on Monday and Tuesday, opening the fall portion of the 2024-25 season. CSU is scheduled to compete five times this fall, all on the road.

"I could not be more excited for the season ahead," Director of Golf and Head Men's Coach Lee McCoy stated. "Incredible support from the Columbus community and a few talented freshmen have put us in a position to succeed this year."

After next week's tournament, Columbus State will take a break before competing at the Mizuno Intercollegiate in Gainesville, Ga. on Sept. 23-24, hosted by Peach Belt Conference foe North Georgia. The Cougars will return to South Carolina to compete in the Bearcat Fall Classic in Greenville, S.C. on Sept. 30-Oct. 1. CSU will close the fall portion of the season with a visit to the Georgia Southwestern Hurricane Invitational on Oct. 7-8 in Albany, Ga. and a trip to Toccoa, Ga. to take on the McCoy Wright Currahee Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 23-24 hosted by Erskine (S.C.).

The Cougars are positioned to build from success last season with a strong core of returners and five talented new freshmen joining the program. The 12-man roster will be led by PING All-America Honorable Mention and All-PBC First Team selection Bernard Meyer. In addition, Columbus State returns 2023 All-PBC Second Team selection Martin Gruendemann who competed in the NCAA South/Southeast Regional last season.

"We have gone from a 7-man roster to a 12-man roster, which has added a new level of healthy competition internally," McCoy mentioned. "Our players and I truly believe we have what it takes to compete at the highest level of Division II golf."

Columbus State tees off on Monday, Sept. 9 at the Monticello Golf Club in McCormick and will wrap up on Tuesday, Sept. 10. Results can be found on the Scoreboard powered by Clippd.
