ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Columbus State University men's golf traveled to St. Augustine, Fla. on Monday and Tuesday for the first tournament of the 2025 spring portion of the season.
The Cougars competed in the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate hosted by Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) at the 7,136-yard, par 72 St. Johns Golf and Country Club
First Round
Columbus State at second in the team leaderboard with an opening round of 287 (-1) with Bernard Meyer finishing the first round with a two-under 70 for a top 10 placement. Pate Stansell followed with a one-under 71 and Frederick Chappell with an even 72.
Martin Gruendemann and Russell Makepeace closed out the Cougars' first round with scores of 74 (+2) and 76 (+4), respectively.
Second Round
In the second round, Makepeace surged up the individual leaderboard with a four-under 68. Meyer added another two-under performance alongside a two-under 18 from Gruendemann. Stansell carded a 71 (+1) with Chappell marking a 73 (+1).
Columbus State remained in the second-place slot with a second-round total of 279 (-9).
Third Round
Meyer finished the day on Tuesday with the lone under-par round for CSU, carding a 71 (-1) to finish sixth individually. Stansell moved up a spot to finish 10th with a final round of 72 while Chappell carded a 72 as well, he finished 14th individually.
Gruendemann recorded a final round of 74 (+2) for 17th with Makepeace rounding out in 30th with a 76 (+4).
As a team, CSU finished tied for third with a three-round total of 855. The Cougars finished with a nine-under total, just five strokes behind the hosts who topped the leaderboard with a final total of 850.
