PAWLEYS ISLAND, S.C. – Columbus State University men's golf traveled to Pawley's Island on Monday and Tuesday for the Spring Bulldog Clash hosted by Barton (N.C.).
The Cougars competed at the 6,526-yard, Par 70 Caledonia Golf & Fish Club. Bernard Meyer and Martin Gruendemann highlighted the 54-hole tournament individual finishes within the top 15 with Meyer leading by notching a fourth-place finish.
CSU posted teams scores of 284 (+4), 272 ( -8), and 280 (E) for a three-round total of 836 (-4) for seventh out 19 teams in the field.
First Round
The Cougars opened with a four-over round as Meyer and Pate Stansell were the lone players under par. Meyer produced a two-under 68 while Stansell carded a one-under 69. Gruendemann was two-over followed by Russell Makepeace with a five-over round. Wrapping up CSU was Trey Kelly with a 77 to finish the first round.
Second Round
Meyer and Gruendemann both surged in the second round firing rounds of 66 (-4). Meyer gathered seven birdies in his second 18 while Gruendemann carded four birdies and an eagle on the par-five eighth hole. Stansell and Kelly both totaled rounds of even-par followed by a one-over performance from Makepeace.
Third Round
In the final round, Meyer scored a two-under 68 to finish with a three-round total of eight-under for fourth individually. Gruendemann carded a final round of 69 to finish 12th on the leaderboard with a three-under finish.
Stansell finished tied for 35th place with final score of two-over after going three-over in the final round. Makepeace shifted up the leaderboard with an even-par round on Tuesday for six-over and 51st place. As for Kelly, he finished tied for 71st with a 12-over total after carding a round of five-over for the third round.
