HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Despite a solid second-round performance from
Russell Makepeace, the no. 13-ranked Columbus State University men's golf team dropped to fourth place after Friday's action at the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional, held at Mission Resort + Club's El Campeón course.
Makepeace fired a three-under 69, the lowest round of the day for the Cougars. He rose to a tie for 25th individually at even-par through 36 holes, marking four birdies highlighted by a clean three-under back nine.
Martin Gruendemann remains the top Cougar on the leaderboard, sitting at two-under after an even-par 72 on Friday. Gruendemann bounced back from a two-over front nine to card a 35 on the back to land even-par for second round.
Pate Stansell and
Bernard Meyer both signed for two-over 74s, while
Frederick Chappell finished with a six-over 78. Both Stansell and Meyer join Makepeace at T25th with two round totals of even-par.
As a team, CSU sits at fourth in the 20-team field with a two-round total of 569 (-3) after carding a one-over 285 on Friday.
