Al Tori Collects PBC Men's Tennis Player of the Week Award

AUGUSTA, GA. – Columbus State junior Samer Al Tori has been named the Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week after guiding the 42nd-ranked Cougars to a perfect 3-0 week, including two wins over ranked opponents.

The weekly honor is the first of the season for Al Tori and the second of his Columbus State career. The Cougars have now won PBC Men's Tennis Player of the Week accolades three times this season, with senior Thomas Cardona gaining recognition on two separate occasions.

Al Tori was perfect in his own right, registering a 3-0 doubles record at No. 2 with Cardona by his side, while also turning in a 2-0 record in singles play in the No. 3 position.

CSU opened the week with a 4-0 shutout of defending National Champion Valdosta State, where Al Tori won 6-4 in doubles play. His singles match ended early as the Cougars recorded the match-winning point before the conclusion of play in his individual contest.

Against No. 23 Belmont Abbey, the Bat Yam, Israel native recorded another 6-4 doubles victory, followed by a dominant 6-2, 6-2 singles win. The week concluded with a team victory over No. 32 Wingate, where Al Tori turned in a 6-2 victory in doubles and a 7-5, 1-6, 6-1 win in singles action.

On the season, Al Tori and Cardona have a 6-1 overall record in doubles play and have won three in a row, while he has a 4-2 mark in singles play with an identical three-match win streak.

Columbus State returns home to the friendly confines of the John W. Walden Tennis Center for its next match against the University of Nebraska at Kearney on Friday, March 20. First serve is scheduled for 2:00 p.m.
