Chris Gilstrap was the starting shortstop and captain of the CSU baseball team that won the national championship in 2002. On his way to earning a spot on the All-World Series team, he had eight hits, scored five runs and drove in five which included the game-winning run in the bottom of the 13th inning against Delta State in an elimination game. He earned All-American status in 2002 and was selected to the All-Peach Belt Conference team as he led the league with 24 doubles. His double mark ranks fifth on the all-time list. In his two seasons at CSU, he hit .362 with 35 doubles, nine triples and eight home runs. He also had 107 RBIs and stole 47 bases. In the CSU single-season record book, he is first in hit by pitch, second in triples, fourth in hits and fifth in runs. Gilstrap returned to take the head baseball coach position at Hardaway High School, his alma mater.
